Prayagraj: Congress leadership has geared up for the forthcoming urban local body polls with senior party leaders set to visit Sangam city from April 6 onwards to chalk out strategy.
AICC secretary Rajesh Tiwari, apart from reviewing poll preparations, will also be holding a nukkad sabha at Salori on April 6 to highlight anti-people policies of BJP-led Union and state governments.
President of city Congress committee, Pradeep Mishra told TOI: “Party has started its preparations and selection of candidates for the post of corporator and mayor would be done by UPCC leaders and party provincial president.”
He added “Congress provincial president Ajay Rai will play a key role in the selection of candidates and will be holding an important meeting with city and district Congress committee members in coming weeks.”
Mishra, meanwhile, said the party will contest forthcoming urban local body polls strongly and senior leaders will be campaigning for the candidates.
“Till now, 750 aspirants have filled forms for the post of corporators from party ticket in 100 wards of the city. Similarly, there are eight contenders so far for mayoral post,” he said.
