A major accident took claimed the lives of at least 12 people while several others were injured after a tractor trolley overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur on Saturday.
The trolley was full of devotees who had come to fill the water in the Garra river. The accident happened near Birsingpur village in the Tilhar area.
According to a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur, the deaths of 12 people have been confirmed while the death toll can increase.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
A compensation of Rs 2 lakhs to the families of those killed in the accident while Rs 50,000 is to be provided to the injured.
NDRF and SDRF teams are present at the spot. Rescue operations are underway.
