PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad high court on Wednesday directed the state government authorities not to take coercive steps till May 25, 2023 against tenure-holders whose land was reportedly acquired for setting up Mohansarai Transport Nagar project in Varanasi. Besides, the court also directed to maintain status quo with regards to the plot reportedly acquired for the said project.
Hearing a writ petition filed by Thakur Prasad and others of Varanasi district, a division bench of Justice Salil Kumar Rai and Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal directed to list this case on May 25 for the next hearing.
According to the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA), Mohansarai Transport Nagar project was launched in 2000 and for which compensation distribution took place till 2012. However, when the VDA team started the process of taking possession, the villagers began violent protests recently.
