Varanasi: After an early morning grand Yoga show following a rally on the city roads here, the torch relay for Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023 reached Banaras Hindu University for a cultural programme on Thursday.
The torch relay of KIUG-2023 had entered the district from Ghazipur on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, scores of athletes carried out a rally from Girija Devi Cultural Complex to Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. District magistrate S Rajalingam and chief development officer Himanshu Nagpal also took part in the rally that was followed by a grand Yoga show, in which the participants performed different Asanas.
Later, the torch relay reached Banaras Hindu University (BHU), where a colorful cultural event was organised at Swatantrata Bhawan. Addressing youths at the function, university rector Prof VK Shukla highlighted the importance of sports in life. As BHU founder Bharat Ratna Pt Madan Mohan Malviya also wanted that youths should be careful about their health, he had ensured sports grounds in front of each hostel on varsity campus, said Shukla calling upon the students to show enthusiasm for games and win medals.
