Varanasi: The district election office on Wednesday released guidelines for counting of votes, which will take place at two warehouses in Pahadia Mandi and Rajatalab tehsil headquarters, on May 13.
Deputy district election officer Ranvijay Singh said warehouse 2 and 3 have been reserved for counting of the votes of the recently-held elections of Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC). The counting for Gangapur Nagar Panchayat (GNP) will be conducted at the meeting hall of Rajatalab tehsil headquarters on the same day.
Counting of votes for the Mayor post will take place at 50 tables while the same for Corporator post of 100 wards will take place at one table in each ward, Singh said, adding that the candidates for corporator posts will be allowed to send one counting agent. Mayor candidates can deploy one agent at each of 50 counting tables. Details of zone-wise wards will be displayed at boards outside the halls, where the counting would take place, he added.
The counting agents will enter through Awas Vikas Colony gate of Pahadia Mandi, the official said, adding that the counting agents will not be allowed to carry any liquid items, mobile phone, laptop or tab inside the counting venue. No candidate will be allowed to carry out victory procession in view of the prohibitory orders promulgating in the district.
