As you just saw, the auto-rickshaw’s convertible roof is no gimmick. It has been built in two layers so that the middle part can easily tuck away and give the passengers a convertible roof experience. The transforming roof is not the only upgrade that seems to have been made to the rickshaw. Once can also spot side-skirts and colour matched wheel caps, that make the rickshaw look quite sporty. For the passengers, well cushioned seats with colour coordinated material can be spotted as well.
The viral video has since gained a lot of attention from netizens, one social media user commented saying, ’The Rolls-Royce of Auto’ comparing the modified three-wheeler to the British automotive marquee. While modifying any motor vehicle remains illegal in the country. The idea to have convertible sunroof on auto-rickshaws might not be ill-founded. However, it is unlikely to become a standard issue feature from the factory as the system would considerably increase the purchase cost of one of these economical modes of transport.
