Vda: Vda Acts Stern Against Illegal Banquet Operators | Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: As no marriage lawn or banquet operators have evinced interest in getting their maps approved from Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) till the deadline of March 15, VDA is pulling up its socks to initiate action against them under relevant Sections of UP Urban Planning and Development Act 1973.
As part of the action, the VDA has alerted people to book only those lawns or banquets, which have taken due approval, to avoid inconvenience during their proposed events.
VDA vice-chairman Abhishek Goyal said, after a drive was launched to check if lawns and banquets are operating as per the norms, a meeting was convened by VDA on the request of their operators on February 13. The lawn operators wanted exemption of their establishments from building construction and development by-laws-2008, the official said. “As fulfilling this demand was not possible in view of the prescribed rules and provision, they were asked to submit the maps of their establishments for initiating necessary action as per law,” he added.
He further said lawn operators were asked to run their business after completing these formalities. They had sought time to complete the formalities, following which VDA had fixed March 15 as the deadline for the same. However, no lawn operators came forward to complete the process, due to which appropriate action would be initiated against them, the Goyal stated.
“VDA has appealed to people, who are planning to book lawns and banquets for marriage or other functions, to see whether the establishments have approved maps of the VDA in order to avoid inconvenience,” he added.
