LUCKNOW: The state government on Thursday transferred three IPS officers, including Meerut’s Additional SP Aniruddh Kumar, who had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from a rape accused.
A video clip purportedly showing Kumar demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from a rape accused had gone viral on March 12. A probe is under way in the matter.
He has been shifted to CB-CID in the same capacity in Lucknow. Senior police officials said that the video footage has been sent for forensic examination to confirm if it was not tampered with.
Sources privy to the probe said that the entire video footage is being checked by the FSL for authenticity. The police are also looking for sources through which it got viral.
A source privy to the probe also said that no transactions in the bank accounts of the officer had been traced yet.
Two other transferred IPS officers include DCP Varanasi Arti Singh, who had been shifted to Kanpur police commissionerate, and DCP Kanpur Ankita Sharma, who was shifted to Varanasi in the same capacity.
Arti Singh is the wife of Aniruddh and was recently accused of not paying the rent in the house where she stayed.
