Prayagraj: Investigations into lawyer Umesh Pal and two of his police gunners’ killing case have revealed that the conspirators and shooters, including slain mafioso-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, his wife Shaista Parveen, his sons, brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf and others, frequently connected with each other through FaceTime, a videotelephony product, ahead of the sensational daylight shootout.
Interestingly, six of them including Atiq, Ashraf, lawyer Khan Saulat Haneef, Mohd Asad, Ghulam and one of the minor son of Atiq had their permanent FaceTime IDs while others were changing their ten-digit IDs on their iphones or any other phones frequently.
Sources said the fact came to light after police recovered and iphone from Atiq’s lawyer Khan Saulat Haneef.
They said SHO of Dhoomanganj police station, Rajesh Kumar Maurya, in an FIR lodged against Haneef on May 3 following the recovery of one 0.9 mm pistol along with three live cartridges and three mobile sets from his home revealed that Haneef had told police that it was Atiq’s slain son Mohd Asad who had given him the iphone and the weapons.
Asad had told Haneef that his father wanted him to safekeep the pistol.
Sources said Haneef had used the same iphone to inform Atiq and Asad when Umesh Pal had left the collectorate for his house on the fateful day.
The seized iphone had Haneef’s own FaceTime ID (advo10@icloud.com) while the IDs of others were also mentioned like Atiq Ahmed (bade006@icloud.com) and Ashraf (chote007@icloud.com). Moreover, ID of Mohd Asad was named as Ansh Yadav and Ghulam as Gullu.
Sources claimed that investigators have managed to connect the entire sequence of events from conspiracy to killing of Pal on February 24.
A day after the killing of Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, police lodged an FIR against Atiq, his wife Shaista, two sons, brother Ashraf and several others under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons),149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, section 3 of Explosive Act and section 7 Criminal Law Amendment (CLA) Act with Dhoomanganj police station. Four of the shooters — Mohd Asad (Atiq’ son), Vijay Chaudhary aka Usman, Arbaaz and Ghulam have been killed in separate encounters with police and STF. Both the gangster brothers, Atiq and Ashraf, were shot dead by three armed assailants inside the campus of Colvin hospital on April 15.
