Prayagraj: The chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Prayagraj on Monday awarded police custody remand of the five accused in the Umesh Pal murder case for interrogation. As per direction of the court, all the five accused, who are already in judicial custody, were produced before the CJM, reports Rajesh Kumar Pandey.
It is alleged that these five persons facilitated the commission of crime by providing aid to the killers and conspirator of Umesh Pal murder case, which took place on February 24, 2023. Those who have been granted judicial custody include Mohd Iqbal alias Sajar, Mohd Kaish, Mohd Niyaz, Rakesh alias Lala and Arshad alias Katra. According to district government counsel (criminal), Gulab Chandra Agrahri, the station house officer (SHO) of Dhoomanganj police station of Prayagraj, Rajesh Kumar Maurya, who is investigation officer (IO) of Umesh Pal murder case, had moved an application before the CJM requesting him to grant police custody remand of these five accused persons so that some important clues may be obtained from him. Accepting his request, the CJM permitted the police remand of the five accused on April 4, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The police remand has been given for interrogation and not for recovering anything, the order of CJM added.
Umesh Pal, who is prime witness in BSP MLA Raju Pal was killed in Prayagraj along with his two gunners of UP police on February 24, 2023.
