Varanasi: On the last day of campaigning for the municipal elections, candidates on Tuesday made their last-ditch efforts to woo voters.
The urban local body (ULB) elections is scheduled to be held on May 4.
Candidates and their supporters of various political parties including Congress, BJP and Samajwadi Party took out processions in different localities to demonstrate their strength.
Congress mayoral candidate Anil Srivastava along with former MLA Ajay Rai and supporters took out a motorcycle rally from Mahamana Malaviya statue at Lanka gate of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). After passing through various localities, the procession went to the Ambedkar statue at kutchehry.
Similarly, BJP’s mayoral candidate Ashok Tiwari, during the campaign in various areas, appealed to people to vote in favour of the saffron party in huge numbers. Tiwari said that it is his party’s priority to speed up the development of Kashi and put all schemes of the central and state government on the ground. “It is our mission to make the city clean through a cleanliness campaign in all wards and get rid of drinking water and sewer related problems,” he said.
SP’s mayoral candidate OP Singh along with his supporters also campaigned in various localities and made an appeal to the people to vote in favour of his party.
