‘Tight clothes cause skin infections in heat’ | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Choosing the right clothes during summer is equally important. Tight-fitting denim trousers and synthetic apparel during the hot summer months can cause skin-related ailments, warn experts.
Dermatologists warn tight clothes can cause fungal infections and allergies since they trap heat and cause more sweating.
Faculty in dermatology department of KGMU, Prof Parul Verma, explained that about 80 out of 300 skin patients visiting the department in the summer suffer from ringworm, contact dermatitis, and allergic rashes. “Major reason is tight clothes that cause lack of airflow and sweat absorption. Denim clothing can create an environment conducive to the growth of fungi,” she added.
Experts recommend loose and breathable clothing made from natural materials such as cotton during summer.
Dr Amit Madan, a dermatologist in the city, said chemicals used in manufacturing of clothes can trigger allergic reactions and other skin problems.
Wearing jeans in hot weather may also lead to heat rash or folliculitis, as sweat and bacteria become trapped on the skin, causing inflammation, itching, and infection, he said.
