MUMBAI: Two fake websites selling ‘belly fat burner’ products in name of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar have come to light.
An FIR against an unknown person was filed on Thursday with west region cyber police station after Tendulkar’s personal assistant found the link with his photograph, claiming to sell herbal products to those who have body, skin, hair, pain or health problems.
The ‘company or ‘scamsters’ stated on the page: ‘Sachin Health I Cash On Delivery In India. Sachin Health was made with love for people in India who end up facing some body, skin, and hair problems. With utmost care, we make sure that you are getting full value for your money with our unique pain or health-related products.” In the complaint, Sachin’s personal assistant said, “We found out the illegal usage of Sachin Tendulkar by a company on their social media pages and websites. This illegal usage is a misrepresentation and has caused a loss of repute to Tendulkar. It is also misleading consumers.”
Based on a written complaint to additional commissioner of police Shashi Kumar Meena (crime branch), the FIR was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 419 (impersonation), 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 500 (defamation), and 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) against the unknown person.
A team has been formed to track the accused. Cyber police have also sought internet protocol details to track details of the websites’ creator and from where they are being operated. Tendulkar’s PA’s complaint stated, “I came across the website links (sachinhealth.in and shylahealth.in) advertised in the name of Sachin recommending a belly burner oil. The product link on social media was published by the user ID ‘Naveen’. The advertisement also mentioned that one can get a free T-shirt signed by Tendulkar on ordering the fat melting spray worth Rs899. The products are sold on two websites created in his name with his photographs being used, which is misleading and illegally used to disrepute his image.”
