Six Cops Suspended For Laxity After Attack On 2 Undertrials | Varanasi News – Times of India


Varanasi: As many as six police personnel including a sub-inspector and a woman constable were suspended on Tuesday night on the charges of laxity performed in duty after two accused in a killing case were attacked in the district court compound.
One Sharawn Kumar Yadav entered the court compound with a country-made revolver and opened fire on the two accused of his brother’s killing when they were brought to the court for hearing in the same case on Tuesday afternoon.

Both the accused- Suryapratap Rai alias Golu Rai and Mithilesh Giri alias Dabloo were brought to the district court of Jaunpur from the district jail for hearing when they were attacked by Shrawan and sustained bullet injuries. Shrawan was arrested by police.
Regarding the incident, additional SP (city) Jaunpur Brijesh Kumar Gautam said that one Pahalwan Yadav alias Badal was stabbed to death near an egg shop on May 6, 2022 in Dharmapur area. Rai and Giri were the main accused in the case and following their arrest charges had been framed on them. On Tuesday they were brought to the court from the district jail for trial when Badal’s brother Shrawan opened fire on duo.
Both injured were rushed to the district hospital from where they were to Trauma Centre of BHU in Varanasi. Lawyers and other persons in the district court caught Shrawan and thrashed him before handing him over to police.
SP Jaunpur Ajay Pal Singh ordered a probe in which laxity of cops deployed for court security was exposed. Taking note of it he suspended SI Kalicharan Kanojia, head constables- Santosh Kumar Gupta, Sanjay Yadav, Jaikiran Sonkar, constable Anil Chauhan and woman constable Archana Maurya.
