NOIDA: Nearly 250 people whose children are enrolled in Uttarakhand Public School, which was sealed by the Noida Authority on Monday over dues worth Rs 15 crore, gathered at a park in Delhi’s Kondli and marched to the police station in Sector 58 on Tuesday morning.
They submitted a police complaint against the school authorities for allegedly keeping them in the dark about the dues and the Authority’s notices to them. Later, they met the district magistrate, who sought two days to look into their grievances.
Over 40 students, meanwhile, reached the school for regular classes in the morning, but returned when they found the gates locked.
According to the parents’ association, they had initially planned to meet in Noida. “But prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 are in place here,” said Yogendra Kasana, president of the All Noida School Parents’ Association.
The parents expressed concern about the admission of their kids, pointing out that they had already paid a portion of the fees for the current academic year.
“Just two days ago, I paid nearly Rs 70,000 for the admission of the two children in classes 4 and 6,” said Ramesh Bharti.
The Noida Authority has refused to relent. “The school will remain sealed until the dues are paid,” said Vandana Tripathi, an OSD at the Authority.
Police, however, said they would wait for two days before lodging an FIR. “We have taken note of the complaint. A decision on this will be taken by the district magistrate and the district inspector of schools,” said Sushil Kumar, an ACP.
The school, which has around 1,500 students, has been given two days to pay the amount. The school management needs to pay the Authority Rs 15 crore for land that was allotted to it in 1991.
Officials said a 3,550sqm plot was allotted to Uttarakhand Public School in Sector 56 in 1991. The Uttarakhand Jan Kalyan Parishad – which was setting up the school – paid 20% of the amount then. But after that, it never made any payment to the Authority.
Although the Authority cancelled the land allotment in September 2020, it stopped short of sealing the school and gave time to the management to clear the dues. Officials said they had sent repeated reminders to the authorities – the last being on April 21 – to make the payment, but they did not elicit any response.
