Samar: Police Get Custody Remand Of Accused In Akanksha Case | Varanasi News – Times of India



VARANASI: The fast track court of civil judge (junior division) Surbhi Pathak on Wednesday ordered Sarnath police to take Bhojpuri singer and accused in actress Akanksha Dubey abetment to suicide case Samar Singh on 5-day custody remand from 10 am on Thursday till 5 pm on Monday, April 17.
District government counsel (criminal) Alok Chandra Shukla said after filing of objection by lawyers of Samar Singh on Wednesday morning, the court had reserved its order on the application of Sarnath police to seek custody remand for further interrogation to collect evidence in Akanksha Dubey suicide case. The order was issued late afternoon, he said, adding, Sarnath police will now take him in custody remand from Thursday after his medical examination. Before sending him back to district jail by 5 pm on April 17, police will have to ensure his medical examination once again. Shukla said the court has also directed police not to subject him to inhuman behaviour. If Samar wishes his lawyer can stay with him during investigation to monitor the process from a distance of 20 meters and without causing any disturbance.
Samar’s lawyers, including Anuj Yadav had strongly opposed the demand of police for his custody remand on Tuesday and had sought time to file objection against the plea. The court had given time till 11 am on Tuesday to file the objection.
Akanksha was found dead in her room at Sumendra Residency hotel in Sarnath area of the city March 26 morning. Her mother Madhu Dubey had lodged an FIR against Samar and his friend Sanjay Singh under section 306 (abetment of suicide) in this connection. Following his arrest from Ghaziabad on April 8 he was brought here by police and sent to jail after producing before remand magistrate on April 9. Sarnath cops had filed an application to seek Samar on 72-hour custody remand for further interrogation in Akanksha Dubey suicide case as his mobile could not be recovered. Since Samar’s mobile contains vital information and evidence of the case, police sought his in custody remand to help recover his mobile phone.
The FTC had started hearing on the application of police to seek Samar’s custody remand on Monday when it had asked to produce him before it on Tuesday. Yadav said that for security reasons Samar had moved an application to allow him to appearing before the FTC from jail through video conferencing and the court had accepted this plea.
