VARANASI: Joining the city in celebrating Ram Navmi with religious fervor, a group of Muslim women performed aarti of Shri Ram and Janaki at Lamahi village on Thursday. They performed the ritual amid their roza, fasting for the holy month of Ramzan.
The event was organised by the Muslim Mahila Foundation and Vishal Bharat Sansthan. Women of both communities, led by president of the outfit, Nazneen Ansari, sang praises of Lord Ram and the folk ‘Sohar’ on the occasion.
“Religion can change neither ancestry, nor motherland,”said Nazneen. “As long as our forefathers were associated with the name of Shri Rama, we were looked at with respect all over the world, but now they look at us with suspicion. If we stay connected to our roots, our repute will remain intact. India has been a land of ‘Sanatan’ traditions for centuries and whoever lives here, belongs to Hindu and Sanatan culture,” she added.
“We will never quit Indian culture, so, we are observing roza as well as performing aarti of Ramji,,” said Razia Sultan, adding, “This will only spread love and no religion will be in danger.” President of the Bharatiya Awam Party, Najma Parveen, said, “Wherever in the world we live, we will represent Indian culture. A society that does not respect Lord Ram will not be respected anywhere in the world. Those who question Ramcharit Manas are criminals, and should be put in jail”.
The Muslim women also took part in the Shri Ram Dhwaja and Ram Kalash Yatra taken out by Rampanth from Lamahi village under the leadership of Mahant Balakdas of Patalpuri math.
