Prayagraj: With Prayagraj Municipal Corporation recording 31.45% polling on Thursday, poll statistics on Friday revealed that more men (32.59%) cast their votes in comparison to women (30.01%).
The polling percentage in 2017 municipal polls was 34.2%.
Out of 4,94,471 votes polled, as many as 2,85,961 male and 2,08,510 female voters cast their votes at 1180 polling booths in the nagar nigam polls. A total of 15,76,713 voters, including 8,79,930 men and 6,96,783 women, were enrolled in the electoral list. At 9am, a total of 58,442 votes (3.72%) were polled while 1,41,843 votes (9.02%) were polled by 11am. Similarly, a total of 2,52,024 votes (16.03%) were polled by 1pm, while 3,62,722 (23.07%) and 4,47,094 (28.44%) votes were polled by 3pm and 5pm respectively. The fate of total 930 candidates including 21 mayoral and 909 corporator posts were sealed on Thursday. However, officials of district election office are analyzing the percentage of male and female voting ward wise to find out exact figures. Here, the highest number of 32,090 voters including 17,879 men and 41,211 women were registered in Naini Dadri while Jahagirpuri ward in old city had the lowest number (8,166) voters including 4,591 men and 3,575 women. However, both the wards witnessed poor attendance of voters in terms of percentage. Moreover, there were at least two wards in nagar nigam which had more than 30,000 voters including Naini Dadri (32,090) and Shams Nagar (30,486) while there were at least 11 wards of the city which had more than 20,000 voters including Sulemsarai, Jhulelal Nagar, Shahganj Garisaray, Allenganj, Teliyarganj, Kasiraj Nagar, Baghambari Housing scheme, Minhajpur Garikala and Tagore town. Ironically, poor turn out of voters has left the officials of the district election office puzzled who are now studying the reasons for low percentage. Figures also revealed that there were at least four wards in city which had less than 10,000 voters including Sonauti, Gohri, Jahagirabad, and Govindpur. Records further claimed there were 14,02,641 voters in 80 wards of the nagar nigam in 2017 which got increased up to 15,76,713 voters in 100 wards of nagar nigam this year.
In contrast, more women voters participated in eight nagar panchayat polls. Figures revealed that 58.42% female and 57.77 % male voters cast their votes in nagar panchayat polls.
