VARANASI: The Gyanvapi mosque management committee, Anjuman Intezamia Masajid (AIM), on Monday filed its reply to the pleas seeking scientific investigation of the entire mosque compound, saying the three applications filed by nine plaintiffs were not maintainable as the Supreme Court had stayed the Allahabad high court order of May 12 to conduct a scientific survey of the purported ‘Shivling’ found in the complex.
Also, the Hindu side’s claims on other structures in contention were based on the court commissioned survey report, which had not been disposed of so far, AIM told Varanasi district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha.
The court fixed July 7 as the next date for hearing.
AIM lawyers Ekhlaq Ahmed and Rayis Ahmed Ansari told TOI: “We have mentioned in the reply that the report of the court-mandated survey of the mosque compound, conducted between May 6 and 16 in 2022, was submitted before the court in May itself. Even though the matter has not been disposed of, its contents are being made the base for claiming that the fountain found in the ablution pond of the mosque is a Shivling. How can this be done?”
In its reply, the AIM also submitted that a revision petition filed before the Allahabad high court against a Varanasi court order of April 8, 2021, allowing the ASI study of Gyanvapi in a 1991 case, was still pending.
