PRAYAGRAJ: In a bid to attempt to connect with eligible voters, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, have assigned each Panna Pramukh and four of his assistants (known as Sah panna pramukh) to cover at least 50 houses ahead of urban local body polls. The BJP leadership claimed to have completed the extensive drive of appointing panna pramukh in 76 out of 100 wards of the city under its booth strengthening campaign (Booth Shashastikaran Abhiyan) and each and every booth in-charge along with panna pramukh, will be knocking at least 50 doors before polling day.
BJP spokesman Rajesh Kesarwani told TOI, “Party leadership has chalked out voters connect programme and for that, panna pramukh along with four sah-panna pramukh will be covering at least 50 houses of the booth concerned ahead of polling day. He added, “A panna refers to a page in electoral rolls which is assigned to each prabhari (in-charge). Names of one or more families are listed on each page of the voters’ list and each panna prabhari or panna pramukh is assigned the task to provide special attention to these families.”
Kesarwani, however, said all panna pramukh in 1,202 booths in city have details of all eligible voters of their booth concerned and tolis of panna pramukh, along with four sah panna pramukh have already started voters connect campaign. With an estimate that each and every ward in city has on an average of 10,000 to 12,000 voters and BJP leadership has appointed over 20,000 panna pramukh accordingly.These panna pramukh along with their teams are assigned to interact with families and voters and convince them to cast their votes in favour of party candidate in the urban civic body polls.
After drawing a strategy for booth management for the urban local body polls, the BJP Mahanagar leadership said that panna pramukhs are going to play a key role in the forthcoming civic body polls.
There are a total of 1,202 booths in urban pockets of five Assembly seats– Allahabad North, Allahabad South, Allahabad West, Phaphamau and Phulpur. Senior BJP leaders claimed, “Appointment of panna pramukh and sah panna pramukh was being drafted in view of number of the eligible voters in a particular ward. The party has already launched a door-to-door campaign in a bid to connect more eligible voters in the city limits and has already activated its social media and IT cells to connect with the voters and apprise them of the BJP led government’s achievements”.
