On The Roll: E-bikes Find Takers In Areas Near Colleges & Metro Stns | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: The e-cycle project in the city is slowly finding takers, most of them college students who would earlier depend on cabs and bike taxis for commuting.
The Noida Authority had started the service on its foundation day on April 17. In the first phase of the project, 310 e-cycles were to be made available at 31 docking stations across the city. But as of now, 250 cycles are available at 25 locations.
Officials at Turban Mobility, which is managing the service on behalf of the Authority, said the response was encouraging in areas around colleges and universities as well as metro stations. Most consumers, they said, are youngsters, who need to travel short distances.
Officials said they were also getting requests from the RWAs of various sectors to set up docking stations in their areas.
“We have got 100 monthly subscribers as of now. The highest demand is around colleges in sectors 125, 62 and 62 and the Noida Stadium. On an average, 80 rides are being booked daily.” said Chander Mohan Bali, director of Turban Mobility.
Equipped with GPS devices, these battery-operated cycles are not supposed to be taken outside the city. But many riders, the officials said, were taking them to Greater Noida West, which suggested that the service could be expanded to the outskirts. For such cases, the company has deputed quick response teams to locate the cycles and bring them back.
Some of the docking stations in the city are located in sectors 125, 62 (three places), 63, 21A, 104, 100, 77, 78, 16, 28, 29 (two places), 50, 39, 93, 137 and 142.
Bali said that if any RWA wanted a docking station in its area, it should approach the Authority with its demand. On their part, the company officials plan to give a proposal to the Authority to provide internal connectivity to nearby sectors from metro stations in sectors 50, 51 and 76.
The e-cycle service can be used only through a mobile app (Noida public bike share, Turban Mobility). To start the ride, a user will have to turn on the app’s camera to scan the barcode on the vehicle. A security deposit of Rs 299 is also required. The base fare is Rs 15, which is valid for 30 minutes, and Rs 1 will be deducted for every kilometre. The app will help commuters locate nearby docking centres, besides showing routes to destinations.
The docking stations are equipped with charging points. A full charge is enough for at least 40km. These e-cycles can clock a maximum speed of 25kmph.
