Prayagraj: Check power load capacity, beware of threats from cooking gas and air conditioner units, keep space around building vacant, adequate and advanced fire fight arrangements are few tips that are helpful to keep high-rise buildings and apartment safe from fire.
Officials of fire department have taken up an extensive exercise among residents of multi-storyed buildings and apartments in city through interactive sessions and social media platforms in the summer season to apprise them of fire preventive tips.
Officials of fire department claimed that landmark highrises in the city are safe dwellings only if occupants are aware of their various features. These buildings should have advanced firefighting equipment like early warning system, sprinklers etc. However, the starling fact was that majority of residents aren’t even aware of the existence route and how to operate in-built firefighting. Once a fire incident was reported, it was all because of leaking gas connections/cylinders and faulty air-conditioners.
Chief Fire Officer (Prayargaj) RK Pandey told TOI, “Teams of fire department are interacting with residents of multi-storyed apprising them fire preventive tips. He added, “Reasonable amount of space around a building must be kept free of parking and constructions like fountains so that fire tenders may operate without hindrance or loss of time”. Asserting that short circuit also cause majority of fire incidents in houses, fire officials claimed that there’s a limit to consumption, at least where electricity supply is concerned. If it’s exceeded, the result will be overheating of wires, leading to short-circuit and eventually fire.tnn
