None To Pick Them Up, Dry Leaves Off Road Set On Fire | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: Horticulture waste, such as dry leaves’ mounds lying at various places, is a concern for residents in Greater Noida. One such lot was allegedly burnt in Sector Beta 1 on Thursday.
Besides, a water supply pipe has been broken by the road in front of Ryan School in the sector, causing water wastage and the area to be waterlogged.
The piles of leaves in front of a temple in block B were burnt by some residents, which is against NGT rules. “I am sure the act was done out of frustration of seeing the mound for days. But this is against the rules of NGT. Officials should pay attention to the menace,” Ashok Pandit, the temple priest said.
The leaves don’t get cleaned so there is an increase in mosquitoes and breeding in the area, Pandit added.
Harinder Bhati, a resident, said, “We are constantly complaining about the lack of sweeping and sanitation. The problem is also faced by other sectors in Greater Noida. The sweeping contractor staff maintains that due to the season, leaves are falling all the time and that they cannot clear it throughout the day. But why leave them unattended for days? They can at least pick them up in the morning and evening.”
While Parvinder Kasana from GNIDA noted the problem and apprised that staff was sent to douse the fire, officials also warned the contractors of levying fines.
Later in the day, Utsav Kumar Niranjan, senior manager, public health, GNIDA issued a penalty of Rs 30,000 to the contractor agency.
Moreover, a Ganga water pipe burst early on Thursday morning in Sector Beta 1. “Today, the Gangajal water line in front of Ryan School broke, leading to wastage of litres of water and a waterlogged situation,” said Siddharth Aggarwal, another resident.
Bhati said that some or the other water line breaks every third day in the city. “That’s because the pipes are old and are unable to sustain the pressure released during supply time. There should be proper checking of pipes to prevent damage and leakage,” he said.
The authority staff were engaged in repair work till late afternoon.
