Noc: 15% City Hotels Have Noc From Directorate Of Electrical Safety | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ: Hardly 15 percent hotels have obtained no objection certificate (NOC) from the Directorate of Electrical Safety in Sangam City. There are a total of 130 big and small hotels in the city and only 15% of them have got NOC while the rest are yet to take measures to seek NOC. Taking a cue from the recent fire at Nehru complex wherein around two dozen shops were gutted in fire on Saturday, the authorities of the electric safety directorate have decided to serve notices to hotels who have not obtained NOC till now.
The directorate has also decided to serve notices to private big and small hospitals of the district appealing them to go through an electrical safety audit. Hemant Sharma, assistant director, Directorate of Electrical safety (Prayagraj zone) told TOI, “ The department has decided to serve notices to those hotels and hospitals who have not obtained NOC from the directorate of electrical safety till now. Directorate officials with the help of district authorities are drawing a fresh list of hotels and hospitals who are yet to seek NOC from the directorate”. Sharma, meanwhile, said, “The department had last year served notices to many hotels but many of them didn’t pay heed towards the notice and now we would be serving them reminders”.
Besides, officials of the directorate of electrical safety have also written to the chief engineer of the power department with an appeal that those new seeking power connections for commercial and industrial units must have NOC from the directorate of electrical safety. Besides, the directorate is also drawing a list of government and private hospitals who have also not obtained the NOC till now. It is estimated that there are around 250 big and small hospitals operating in the Prayagraj district and hardly 10 percent of them have NOC from the directorate.
The directorate of electrical safety, which works under the energy department of the state government, is mandated under Rule 46 of the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956 to carry out initial as well as periodical inspections of all industrial, commercial complexes, multi-storey residential/government buildings and issue a no-objection certificate (NoC) for the power connection or renew it accordingly, declaring a building ‘safe’.
