No special diabetic home food for dismissed Mumbai cop Sachin Waze, says court | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A special NIA trial court in Mumbai on Wednesday denied “sepcialised diabetic home cooked food” for dismissed Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze in jail as undertrial. Waze is an accused in connection with the Antilia bomb scare and Mansukh Hiran murder case.
The court observed that the Taloja prison at Navi Mumbai is providing a balanced diet. The trial court also took into consideration jail authorities’ contention that there was no special machinery to check food and its quality and hence there is an apprehension over the prisoner’s health.
Waze had on Monday filed an application for home food citing health concerns and that a doctor from the state-run JJ hospital asked the jail superintendent to provide him a strict diabetic diet. His claim was that the prison administration would not be in a position to provide a special diet as advised.
The Court said the prison was providing a balanced diet and therefore rejected his plea.
Waze on Wednesday said he had no objection to the application of another former policeman and co-accused Sunil Mane, seeking pardon in the case.
However, the National Investigation Agency, probing the case, opposed Mane’s plea. The NIA said it was crystal clear that Mane was “directly involved in the crime.”
On February 25, 2021, an explosives-laden SUV was found near ‘Antilia’ in south Mumbai. Hiran, who said he was in possession of the SUV before it was allegedly stolen, was found dead in a creek in neighbouring Thane on March 5, 2021.
Waze is the main accused in the case along with a few more police officials and others including a bookie Naresh Gaur accused of allegedly getting SIM cards illegally.
Gaur, a permanent resident of Gujarat, sought and was on Wednesday allowed permission to modify bail conditions and travel beyond the jurisdiction of trial court without any permission
Advocate Aniket Nikam appearing for Gaur argued that while granting bail to Gaur it was observed by the special court that there is scant evidence against Gaur in respect of his participation in the conspiracy to plant the explosive laden car outside Antilia or in the murder of Mansukh Hiran.
Gaur’s wife is a teacher in a government school. They have a minor child and he is deprived of his family life because of this cumbersome condition, argued Nikam adding there was nothing to show that Gaur would abscond or misuse his liberty.
NIA prosecutor Sunil Gonalves opposing Gaur’s plea said if the condition is relaxed he would abscond and be unavailable for trial.
