No mobiles & recce was TN gang’s survival mantra: Police | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ: The arrest of two Tamil Nadu-based miscreants from the city for executing many crimes in trans Yamuna areas in the recent days has revealed that the gang didn’t used mobile phones fearing being trapped and relied on old ways of conducting recce before committing the loots.
The Prayagraj police had on Thursday arrested two members of the gang– Kartik Kumar (20) and Jai Kumar Naidu (21) — and seized one 0.32 bore licensed pistol along with six live cartridges, Rs 1.12 lakh cash, one laptop, one power bank, one mouse, one charger, one headphone and silver ornaments. They were wanted in connection with cases of loots in the city on February 14, April 27 and May 10, 2003.
ACP (Karchana) Ajeet Singh Chauhan told TOI that gang members, operating their nefarious designs across UP towns, had made Delhi as their base camp where they assembled after executing crimes.
“They conducted proper recce before committing a crime. Moreover, the gang struck only at place where they could get hefty amount. They kept on changing their location to dodge police,” he said.
He added the gang members moved in groups of 7 to 15 and often took shelter near temples or railway station.
“The gang also has women and children who sometimes work as labourers,” Chauhan said and added once the Tamil Nadu-based gang came under the radar of Prayagraj Commissionerate police, cops started collecting data and inputs from their counterparts in Delhi and other states.
Police sources said the gang members are expert in executing thefts swiftly.
In most cases, the gang members in separate groups, walk within 50 or 100 metre radius of the targeted vehicles. They distract the attention of car owners or driver on the pretext of leaking oil or mobil oil or dent on cars and when the driver steps down, another member standing near the vehicle, steals valuables and moves away swiftly.
“The compilation of CCTV and video footages has helped the cops to connect missing links and identify criminals,” the ACP added.
Every member of the gang was assigned different task right from stealing box containing cash or valuables to its transportation to safer areas. Now, police are on the lookout for 10 key operatives of the gang, including the kingpin, particularly active in UP.
Police said Sanjay, a resident of Madangiri (Ambedkar nagar) Delhi was the kingpin of the gang which has 10-15 members. They travel long distances to execute crimes.
The ACP, meanwhile, said the gang carry back-up along with the main members and operate in well organised manner.
“They usually didn’t carry mobile phones. If required, they purchase it before committing crime and destroy it at the earliest. The gang members use their local language for communication,” he said.
The gang’s agents were particularly active in Madangir (Delhi), West Bengal and Tripura. They used to change their names and carried fake identities to dodge law enforcement agencies,” source said.
