Nmcg: 7 Pucca Ghats Gets Nmcg Go-ahead | Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: The proposal of constructing seven pucca ghats in Sangam city ahead of Maha Kumbh 2025 has got the approval from the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
While four ghats are proposed on the banks of Ganga three are planned on Yamuna banks at an outlay of Rs 99.4 crore.
The go ahead for the construction of ghats, which promises a huge leap ahead in terms of religious tourism in the district, has been given following an online presentation made by the state irrigation department (flood division unit) officials before the NMCG officials on April 18.
The irrigation department (Flood control unit) had sent the proposal for the development of Dashashwamedh Ghat, Qila Ghat, Naukian Ghat, Gyan Ganga Ashram Ghat, Saraswati Ghat, Maheva Ghat and Rasoolabad Ghat to the Central government’s unit of NMCG through the state government.
As per officials of the department, the funds are expected to be released by NMCG soon. Irrigation department’s superintending engineer SK Singh said: “Under this initiative, proper arrangements for the pilgrims to take a dip in the holy rivers, lighting and beautification will be done at the ghats.”
The stat government had already approved the proposal. In the second meeting of the apex committee of Maha Kumbh-2025 related works, UP chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra had instructed to hold talks with NMCG regarding the expenditure involved in the construction of these ghats and for this, a proposal along with detailed project report (DPR) was sent to NMCG on behalf of Prayagraj Mela Authority.
Accepting the proposal, NMCG had sent its team led by consultant Kakoli Sikdar to visit these sites. The team visited city on March 14 and inspected the sites.
An important ghat on the list is the Dashashwamedh Ghat on the banks of Ganga at Daraganj. This 30-metre long ghat would substantially reduce the pressure from the main Sangam area as a large number of devotees would be able to use this ghat which would be constructed near the Beni Madhav Mandir, one of the 12 Madhav temples of Sangam city. Likewise, the Qila Ghat on Yamuna too would be converted into a pucca ghat which would be able to withstand the yearly floods. This would also help in handling VIP movement. Likewise, a new concrete ghat near Saraswati Ghat would also be constructed at river Yamuna which would enhance the facility of water sports.
The Rasoolabad Ghat would also be extended and a new 30m long concrete ghat would be constructed in front of Gyan Ganga Ashram.
