VARANASI: The department of Museology, Banaras Hindu University celebrated its first foundation day and International Museum Day on Wednesday by holding a special lecture programme.
Welcoming the guests, the head of the department of Museology, prof Usha Rani Tiwari set the topic, highlighting the concept of social welfare through museums and sustainable development.
The dean of the faculty of Arts, Prof Kishore Mishra delivered a lecture on the concept of ‘sangrah’ and its philosophical aspects in Rigveda and Sanskrit literature. The keynote speaker, Ajay Srivastava, curator in-charge at the Craft Museum, Bada Lalpur, threw light on the efforts made for social welfare through sustainable development model in Indian museums and the benefits they would bring to the museum and society. Further, he discussed the techniques of conservation of the environment and ecology through the museum.
In his presidential address, the head of the department of History of Arts and Travels &Tourism Management, Prof Atul Tripathi, while clarifying the concept of International Museum Day, emphasized the need to define and understand Indian literature and Indian examples to get a better idea of museums in the Indian context.
