Maruti Suzuki retains country’s largest exporter title: Crosses 2.5 million units – Times of India

Maruti Suzuki India on Monday announced that it has crossed the cumulative exports of 2.5 million units. The company started exporting vehicles in FY1986-87. The first big consignment of 500 cars was shipped to Hungary in September 1987, followed by Bangladesh and Nepal.
With support from the parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation, the company has gradually expanded its presence across other countries. Now, Maruti Suzuki exports to nearly 100 countries. The company’s key export markets are Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki exports its 17 models, including the Grand Vitara SUV. In January 2023, the company shipped the first batch of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUVs to Latin America from Kamarajar Port. The manufacturer aims to export the Grand Vitara to 60 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and more. Some of Maruti Suzuki’s highest export demand models are the Swift, Dzire, S-Presso, Baleno and the Brezza SUV.

“The landmark export of 2.5 million vehicles stands as a testimony to India’s manufacturing prowess. This feat demonstrates Maruti Suzuki’s resolute commitment to the Government of India’s flagship Makein-India initiative, and furthering Government’s efforts to enhance vehicle exports. This was possible because of the strong support of our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, who not only provided strong technical support but also helped us leverage their vast global network to achieve this milestone,” says Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
