In the month of March 2023, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,70,071 vehicles (domestic + export), which is about 0.19 per cent lower than the 1,70,395 units sold in the same month last year. At 1,39,352, domestic sales (PV +LCV + OEM) also recorded a marginal dip from the 1,43,899 units sold in March 2022.

Despite the overall dip in sales, the company’s Utility Vehicles including Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, S-Cross and Grand Vitara were in high demand. As of April 1, 2023, Maruti Suzuki has increased the prices of its entire car line-up by around 0.8 per cent. The price hike comes in order to partially offset the impact of “overall inflation and regulatory requirements”.
However, increasing vehicle prices from April has been a industry-wide trend for some time now. Auto manufacturers like Honda Cars, Tata Motors and Hero MotoCorp have also announced similar price hikes from April 1, 2023. Moreover, the new real-time driving emission (RDE) norms have also now been implemented, which will result in a host of low-demand cars being discontinued from the market.
