Kanpur: A man complained of losing vision of one eye permanently after undergoing cataract surgery at a government hospital in the city.
A probe was ordered after the patient met the chief medical officer and lodged a complaint against two doctors of Ursala hospital. The CMO assured the patient of investigation into the case and suitable action.
Rajendra Sharma, a resident of Sanigawan Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) Colony under Chakeri police station area, had undergone cataract surgery of one of his eyes at Ursala Hospital recently.
Prasad said after examination, the doctors said he had cataract in one eye and will have to undergo an operation. Sharma underwent surgery on March 2.
On March 10, Rajendra complained to the doctors that he had problem in the eye that had been operated on, following which doctors gave him an eye drop.
“I kept putting the drops in the affected eye, but on March 17, I completely lost its vision. I went to Ursala Hospital again and complained, but the doctors did not pay heed. Then I got the examination of my eyes done at two private eye hospitals in the city, where I was told that there was retinal damage in my eye,” Sharma told mediapersons. He also alleged that the doctors took Rs 5,000 from him in the name of putting a lense in the eye.
Sharma reached the Kashiram Hospital on Wednesday and narrated the ordeal to CMO Alok Ranjan and submitted an application in this regard.
The CMO assured to conduct an inquiry into the matter. “Action will be taken against the doctors if found guilty,” CMO told media persons. tnn
