Love capsule: My husband married me for my money – Times of India

If anyone asks me to reflect upon my life, I just feel so much sadness and disappointment. There has been a sense of betrayal and anguish that I have experienced that made me break down. I was once a young woman full of dreams and aspirations of living a fulfilling life with the one I love. But when I met him, little did I know that my life would become hollow with his deceit.
I met my husband in my early 20s. He wooed and charmed me into falling in love with him. I was the daughter of a wealthy real estate developer and I met him at a party. It wasn’t long before we professed our love for one another. When we exchanged vows, I believed in our love and that it was the foundation upon which our marriage was built. A first, he gave me all the love I wanted and made me feel so special. However, as the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, it became painfully clear that my husband’s intentions were far from pure. Beneath his charming facade was a man who only wanted my money. And it slowly became clear to me that he was driven solely by his hunger for wealth.
I watched helplessly as he transformed from a loving husband to a manipulator. He showered me with gifts and presents by using them as tools to keep me under his control. He controlled all my actions by making me entirely his, and by making sure I never turn to anyone but him. He emotionally manipulated me, so that he could slowly put his hands all over my inheritance money. The affection I had once cherished was replaced by a chilling emptiness, a constant reminder of his true motives.
With each passing day, I saw how he pursued money and power relentlessly. He didn’t care for my dreams or happiness; instead, he focused solely on his schemes and financial gains. It pained me to see the depths to which he would sink, exploiting every opportunity for his personal benefit. My heart grew heavy with the weight of the betrayal, and a sense of desolation settled deep within my soul.
As the realisation of my husband’s true nature dawned upon me, anger, sadness, and a profound sense of helplessness consumed me. I felt trapped in a loveless marriage. There was a sense of duty that I had to follow. He would try to control me and my dreams. He would actively take part in all my financial decisions and make it look like he is the perfect, supportive husband. But in reality, he would keep a check on the amount of money in my account and would even take out the money as he wished in order to give into his needs. When I confronted him regarding all this, he even became verbally abusive. And every time, I trembled with fear.
His eyes shine with greed for my money and he simply doesn’t care about how I feel. I feel like I made the worst mistake of my life by marrying him and I have no idea about how to undo all of this.
