Varanasi: The four-day wrestling competitions being organized under the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) began with the meeting of the referee clinic and technical officials on Friday. However, the formal inauguration of the KIUG events will be held on Saturday.
The wrestling competitions will be organized at the Student Activity Centre of IIT BHU in 30 different weight categories. The wrestling competition will be organized in Greco-Roman, freestyle as well as in the women’s category. The main matches will start from Saturday.
According to the coordinator of the event, Nikhil Singh, the freestyle wrestling matches will be held in 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 79, 86, 92, 97 and 125 kg weight categories. Similarly, Greco-Roman matches will be held in 55, 60, 63, 67, 72, 77, 82, 87, 97 and 130 kg weight categories. In the women’s category, the matches of 50, 53, 55, 57, 59, 62, 65, 68, 72 and 76 kg weight categories will be held.
