Hyundai Exter vs Tata Punch vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Specifications
The company has confirmed that the Exter will be powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, similar to the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Venue, i20 and Aura. We expect the engine to generate a power output of 83 hp and torque of 114 Nm. Hyundai has also confirmed that the engine will be paired with a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission. The Hyundai Exter might be available in a CNG variant upon launch.
The Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, mated with a manual and an AMT unit. The engine produces a max power of 85 hp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. The engine is mated with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT unit.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is available in two engine options – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder NA petrol engine. Mated with a mild-hybrid technology, the former generates 100 hp power and 147.6 Nm torque, while the latter produces 90 hp power and 113 Nm power.
The turbo-petrol engine is mated with a five-speed manual and a six-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The Naturally Aspirated petrol engine comes paired with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT gearbox. Maruti Suzuki claims that the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine will offer a fuel economy of 21.79 kmpl (MT) and 22.89 kmpl (AMT), while the 1L turbo-petrol engine will deliver a fuel efficiency of 21.5 kmpl (MT) and 20.01 kmpl (AMT).

Hyundai will be offering the Exter SUV in five variants – EX, S, SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect in the Indian market.
The Hyundai Exter price is expected to start from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Punch is available at a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.52 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki is offering the Fronx compact SUV at a starting price of Rs 7.46 lakh, while the higher-spec variant costs Rs 9.52 lakh (ex-showroom). It remains to be seen how competitively Hyundai will price its upcoming Exter SUV in the Indian market.
