Hakikun Nisha 1st Muslim to become BJP corporator in Gorakhpur | Varanasi News – Times of India

GORAKHPUR: Hakikun Nisha created history in the urban local body (ULB) elections as she became the first Muslim BJP corporator (Parshad) of Gorakhpur Nagar Nigam from ward-5, Baba Gambhirnath Nagar.
Hakikun Nisha registered victory with 2,227 votes as she defeated independent candidate Shaheen with a margin of 647 votes. The other two candidates of the ward– Hidisun of Congress and Reshma of BSP– got 1,106 votes and 865 votes, respectively. Besides, 72 voters of the ward selected NOTA.
BJP had given ticket to the only Muslim in the city and she proved to be the right selection by the party. On Sunday evening, Hakikun Nisha met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhnath temple and took his blessings by touching his feet.
Forty-two-year-old Hakikun is a graduate and wife of Manbela Kisan leader Barkat Ali, who is known to be close to CM Yogi.
“My whole family has been in BJP since 2012 and we only support BJP as a party. CM Yogi is the best chief minister I have ever seen and I respect him a lot. My wife always helps me with my work. We have three children, including a daughter and all of them are studying.” Barkat Ali said.
“I believe in CM Yogi and his policies and I will work hard for my ward. We are Pasmanda Muslims and I am happy that BJP believed in me,” said Hakikun Nisha.
