Governor Launches Nutritional Programme, Distributes Millet Bars | Varanasi News – Times of India



Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, said, “While year 2023 has been declared as the International Year of Millets by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government’s efforts has been to signify the importance of millet in developing nutritional healthy diet for every growing child and women”.
Governor was speaking at the launch of nutritional programme with millet bars distribution among children to combat malnutrition organised by the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), the philanthropic arm of Vedanta, at the modernized anganwadi centre ‘Nand Ghar’ in Kashi Vidyapith block on Thursday. She inaugurated the pilot nutrition intervention for children of anganwadis in three blocks of Varanasi. The governor said that such initiatives will not only address the importance of millets, but will also help to cure several malnutrition related diseases, thus creating a positive impact on the community.
The chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Ltd & non-executive director of Vedanta, Priya Agarwal Hebbar said that as a part of its CSR initiative, Vedanta has been working with the Uttar Pradesh government to advance nutrition delivery in the state. Under this pilot launch, AAF would distribute the nutri-bar targeting almost 50,000 children daily across 1,400 Anganwadi centers including Nand Ghars across three focus blocks of Varanasi- Sewapuri, Arajiline, and Kashi Vidyapith.
As a part of its thematic intervention on right nourishment, Nand Ghar, the flagship social impact project of AAF working towards child and women development, collaborated with Indian Institute of Millet Research (Nutri-hub, IIMR).
DM S Rajalingam and the chief development officer Himanshu Nagpal were present on the occasion.
