Varanasi: The health department has decided to conduct fogging throughout the year to control malaria and other vector-borne diseases. Besides, the health teams would also take preventive action in identified areas of the district.
“Earlier, the outbreak of mosquitoes was seen only during the rainy season, but now they are seen throughout the year except for 2-3 months. Therefore, to prevent malaria, if necessary, the work of fogging will be done throughout the year,” said the chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary, adding that the health teams have been taking proper action for effective prevention and control by identifying the areas.
To mark World Malaria Day, various programmes were organised at most of the health centres and educational institutions on Tuesday. The people were made aware about malaria by holding activities like seminars, rallies, health camps and discussions.
A seminar was organised at the CMO office in Durgakund area. The CMO said that the World Malaria Day (April 25) is an occasion to highlight the need for malaria prevention and control. He said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of this disease. Communicable diseases like malaria, dengue, filariasis can be controlled only by people’s participation, he added.
The awareness programmes were also organised in the schools in Durgakund area, where the speakers explained the symptoms, causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue and filariasis. The public awareness rallies were taken out from Durgakund Urban PHC and Madanpura PHC. The children were made aware of prevention of theses communicable diseses in primary schools under Pindra PHC, Sewapuri PHC, and Chiraigaon CHC. Besides, a drive to destruct breeding sources of mosquitos was also conducted in various urban and rural areas.
District malaria officer Dr Sharadchand Pandey said that the breeding sources of mosquitoes are being destroyed in urban and rural areas under the communicable disease control and Dastak campaign. Anti-larvae spraying and fogging are also being done in the district, he said, adding that the urban development department and panchayati raj department are cooperating in this work.
He said that the water vessels must be emptied once a week. It is necessary to always keep cleaning the defrost tray behind the cooler, pot, tin box, coconut shell, box, fridge. The risk of death of a person infected with malaria is reduced when treatment starts on time, he said.
