Fatehpur cops help reunite seven estranged couples | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ: Police personnel from Women Help Desk, the unit set up to redress family disputes, played a instrumental in reuniting as many as seven couples who had sought to end their marriages, in Fatehpur district.
Having witnessed the bitterness and bickering among the couples over the past few months over petty domestic issues, police were relieved to see their patch-up efforts prove fruitful.
Married in April last year, a 22-year-old woman was left heartbroken to see that her 26-year-old husband, a graduate, took the least care and instead tried to find shortcomings in her. This led to daily tiffs that sometimes turned violent. With the mother-in-law interfering in the matter, things went from bad to worse. Frustrated with the daily squabbling, the woman decided to return to her parental house.
After some time, the woman decided to submit an application to the women help desk complaining about her husband. The help desk police said, “During counselling, we realised that at the of the problem was the fact that the husband was not able to consummate the marriage and the woman assumed the problem had no solution.
“The woman was initially adamant not to go with her husband,” said a senior police official, adding that the counsellors explained to her that domestic issues could be solved amicably. The couple were told about the importance of a family and advised to take care of each other. Police said that with time, their anger lessened as experts made efforts to sort out their differences.
In the case of a Hussainganj couple, the two were constantly fighting over domestic issues in the four years of their marriage and had made up their minds to separate. The husband told police that his wife was least bothered to prepare food of his choice and made excuses instead. On other hand, the wife alleged, “My husband was constantly finding faults in me which result in arguments and tiffs. The woman had approached mahila thana to lodge a complaint against her husband but the police referred the matter to women help desk and both husband and wife were called in for counselling. Both listened to the counsellors with patience and in the end promised to take each other’s care. The couple also offered sweets to each other with the promise to make their married life happy and joyous.
Dispute between another couple rose due to unabated use of mobile phone by the wife. The husband kept asking her to minimise it but she was not ready to listen. At one point in time, both did not want to see each other’s face and the woman finally approached police. When counselled, the woman admitted her mistake, agreeing she might have been using her unreasonably at the cost of their married life. Thus, police managed to resolve marital dispute and reunite seven couples, said SP (Fatehpur) Rajesh Kumar.
