LUCKNOW: A 45-year-old man, who attempted self-immolation at Golf course crossing near CM Yogi Adityanath‘s official residence in Lucknow last week, succumbed to injuries on Monday.
He had sustained 60 per cent burns and was recuperating at SPM civil hospital in Hazratganj in Lucknow. Doctors declared him dead, said the police.
A case was registered against the victim on April 21 at Safipur police station in Unnao.
Anand Mishra (45) of Unnao who was approaching the CM’s residence poured inflammable oil over himself and struck a matchstick. In the meantime, the vigilant cops on duty nabbed him and wrapped in a blanket before admitting him to the hospital. Mishra accused BJP MLA from Safipur seat of Unnao, Bamba Lal, of harassing him, said the police.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that on April 21, BJP worker Atul Agnihotri, a resident of Narharpur, lodged an FIR against Anand Mishra, alleging that he (Mishra) had threatened to kill MLA Bamba Lal on social media,” said Arvind Verma, ACP, Hazratganj.
And a few days back, Mishra had also called on the CUG number of SP Unnao, while the call was attended by his PRO. Anand had then also threatened to shoot Safipur MLA Bamba Lal. The audio of the conversation went viral on social media. Police said that Mishra had three cases registered in Unnao.
