Varanasi: Congress candidate for mayoral election Anil Srivastava filed his papers on Sunday while the Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party candidates will file the nominations on the concluding day on Monday.
On Sunday morning, Congress leaders and supporters including Prayagraj provincial unit president Ajay Rai, former MP Rajesh Mishra, city unit chief Raghvendra Chaubey and others gathered at Mint House to take out a procession towards collectorate after garlanding the statue of Swami Vivekananad. However, when the cops apprised them of promulgation of prohibitory order under section 144, the party candidate Anil Srivastava, Rai and Mishra along with some senior leader reached the district headquarters to file nomination papers.
Apna Dal (Kameravadi) candidate Harish Mishra also filed his nomination for mayoral election on Sunday. The SP has announced to field Om Prakash Singh, who will file his papers on Monday. The BJP camp was waiting for the announcement of party candidate for mayoral election till evening.
