AGRA: A clerk at the Registrar of Firms Societies and Chits office in Agra was arrested on Monday after being caught accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a private college director for registering a committee, by the anti-corruption department officials.
Following the incident, a case was registered against Brijesh Kumar Singh (50) under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Hariparwat police station.
SHO Arvind Kumar said, “The bribe money has been recovered from the accused. He will be produced before the magistrate of the anti-corruption court in Meerut.”
On Monday, complainant Om Prakash Singh went to the office and gave the amount to the accused who accepted the bribe and kept it in his office.
After that, officials raided the office and arrested him.
They also gave instructions for a departmental inquiry against the accused.
The anti-corruption cell incharge Sanyaj Yadav said, “Om Prakash visited the chit fund office several times, but the clerk kept on demanding money from him. Distressed, he lodged a complaint with us on May 17. So we laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.”
According to police sources, Om Prakash, a resident of Mathura, had to register a committee for which he applied at the deputy registrar’s office.
