A five-judge constitution bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices SK Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, PS Narasimha and Hima Kohli is hearing arguments on a batch of pleas seeking legal validation for same-sex marriages.
The Centre has agreed to set up a committee to examine the suggestions of LGBTQIA+ community to ease the problems faced by them, solicitor general Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
SG Mehta said the committee will be headed by Cabinet Secretary and petitions seeking same-sex marriage can give their suggestions to the committee through Mehta.
