Black Spots Down To 11 From 15, But Crashes Up | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: The Noida traffic police has revised its list of accident-prone black spots to 11 from the previous 15. Cops said a slew of corrective measures — cracking down on speeding, wrong-side driving and jaywalking — and a host of remedial actions adopted by them have paid off.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), a black spot is a 500 metre stretch where either five road accidents or 10 fatalities have been recorded over three consecutive years.
As per the new list, the 11 black spots include the Sector 21/25 roundabout, Rajnigandha roundabout, Sector 37, Mahamaya Flyover, GIP Mall, Hajipur underpass, Yamaha Cut in Surajpur, two zero point one on the Noida Expressway near Sector 168 and one on NH-24 under Sector 58.
Data shared by the traffic department shows there were 34 black spots until last year. “The traffic police coordinated with three development authorities — Noida, Greater Noida and YEIDA — to fix some black spots. The department also conducted a study and identified 11 new black spots. The traffic police have found that mostly violations like speeding, wrong-side driving, encroachment, jaywalking and potholes, etc., lead to accidents at these spots,” DCP (traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav said.
The department has also adopted remedial measures to install road signs, markings, speed-reduction and repair potholes, among others to make these black spots less prone to accidents.
Last year, however, there were more road accidents and fatalities compared to the previous year. In 2022, 437 people died and 856 were injured in 1,122 road accidents. In 2021, at least 368 people were killed and 504 injured in 798 accidents.
