Varanasi: To assess the pollution level and monitor enviorenment parameters, a smart environment monitoring system (SEMS) has been installed at the Banaras railway station of the Varanasi division of North Eastern Railway (NER).
“The Varanasi division of NER is conscious of environmental protection and monitoring along with providing state-of-the-art facilities to the passengers,” said the NER Varanasi spokesperson, Ashok Kumar. The system has been installed in the circulating area of the station by the mechanical (ENHM) department in collaboration with ATEC India, New Delhi, he said.
According to him, the purpose of the installation of SEMS is to record the real time measurements of PM2.5, PM10, CO2, SO2, NO2, CO, noise along with weather parameters to have accurate and up to date information of Air Quality Index (AQI). The embedded sensor-based machine, installed in an open environment, collects data for real time monitoring of air quality parameters.
He said that the system promotes public awareness and education about air quality and also enables informed decision-making to mitigate adverse effects on public health. It also facilitates the evaluation of the effectiveness of implemented measures at local level, he said, adding that the system can be configured to send alerts and notifications when air quality parameters exceed predefined thresholds.
Rly Board member inspects BLW: The Railway Board member (traction and rolling stock), Naveen Gulati inspected Banaras Locomotive Works on Wednesday. He was accompanied by the BLW GM Basudev Panda, principal chief electrical engineer, SK Srivastava and other officials.
