Prayagraj: Hours after Atiq Ahmed was given rigorous life sentence in 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case, the mafioso-turned-politician was on Tuesday evening send back to Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad.
His brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf and another accused Farhan alias Pahalwan, who were acquitted by the MP/MLA court in the case, were send back to Bareilly and Chitrakoot jails.
A senior police official preferring anonymity told TOI, “Special arrangements were made to send the trio back to their respective jails on Tuesday evening once the verdict was declared.”
He added: “Duties of policemen ranking from constables to inspectors were assigned to take the criminals back to their jails concerned. The police have also ensured proper security cover on routes after coordinating with police of neighbouring districts and states concerned.” To note, cops had brought Atiq, Asharf and Farhan to Naini central jail on Monday evening after the court had made their physical presence must for the verdict.
