Ashraf wrote to CJI, CM on death threat by cop: Lawyer | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ: The lawyer representing gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed‘s younger brother Ashraf alleged Monday that a senior police officer had threatened his client that he would be killed in the next 15 days while he was being taken back to Bareilly jail from Prayagraj on March 28.
Lawyer Vijay Mishra said Ashraf told him that he had written about the death threat in three letters, addressed to the Chief Justice of India, Chief Justice of Allahabad high court and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
“Ashraf told me that the letters are in three separate envelopes and would reach the authorities if he was killed,” he said.
He did not disclose how the letters would be sent, but said arrangements had been made.
“Ashraf had told the media about the threat and when I went to meet him in Bareilly jail, he repeated that to me.
“He did not name the officer, but said in case something happens to them (Atiq and him), details will reach the Supreme Court and the chief minister in a sealed cover,” the lawyer said.
The jailed siblings were shot dead in an audacious shooting in front of TV cameras by three assailants on Saturday night when the duo was being taken in handcuffs to a hospital in Prayagraj for a medical check-up.
