VARANASI: Intensifying raids at possible hideouts of jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afshan Ansari for her arrest, the Mau police raided the don’s parental home in Ghazipur on Thursday. Besides, the Mau police on Friday initiated the process to issue a lookout notice against her.
Talking to TOI, ADG Varanasi zone Ram Kumar said, “After getting booked in many criminal cases and Gangster Act, Afshan is absconding. She as well as her family did not cooperate in the police investigation despite all legal provisions being followed in her case. Mau police had announced a case reward of Rs 25,000 on her while Varanasi IG range announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on her. Several teams of police have been engaged to arrest her.”
SP Mau Avinash Pandey said, “On Friday we completed the formalities of forwarding all necessary documents to the department concerned for issuing a lookout notice against Afshan. On Thursday, a team of Mau police raided her parental house in Yusufpur under Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur in search of her, but she was not found. Mau cops met her brother-in-law and MP Afzal Ansari at their parental home and provided him details regarding all the legal procedures followed in her case.”
As per police records seven cases of cheating and theft against her are lodged with Ghazipur police while three are registered with Mau police. She had been booked under Gangster Act by the police of Mau as well as Ghazipur district.
Most of the immovable properties garnered by Mukhtar gang by grabbing government land in Ghazipur and Mau were owned by Vikas Construction led by Afshan Ansari, who was booked in cases of embezzlement and other criminal activities since 2016 before being booked under the Gangster Act. These properties like land of gram sabha were utilised for commercial benefits by giving on rent to agencies like FCI for warehousing and others.
Regarding Afshan, who has kept dodging men in khaki for over a year, officials said that in 2022 she had been granted conditional stay against her arrest by Allahabad High Court that she would cooperate in on-going investigation in the cases lodged against her. However, despite repeated notices she did not turn up before the investigation officer of the cases lodged against her. For not cooperating with the IO in investigation, notice had also been served under section of CrPC.
