Varanasi: Immovable properties of jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari’s close aide Angad Rai alias Jhullan Rai amounting to Rs 7.17 crore were attached by Ghazipur police at Sherpur village of Bhanvarkole area on Tuesday.
Regarding Tuesday’s action, SP Ghazipur Omvir Singh said Angad Rai, who is a dreaded criminal of Mukhtar gang, is currently lodged in jail and a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on him was announced by police in past, he said adding that a total of 22 criminal cases are lodged against him.
During the on-going police investigation against Mukhtar gang, it came to light that Anad had created immovable properties with illegally earned money at Sherpur village of Bhanvarkole area. When police launched a detailed probe into the matter, it was revealed that he had purchased a plot in the name of his wife Sarita Rai in Jagjivanpur area of Mohammadabad on which a building was being constructed, the SP said. Other property had been purchased by him at his paternal village of Sehrpur, he added.
Total market value of the properties had been assessed as Rs 7,17,04,460, he said. “After collecting all details, a report was sent to the district magistrate. The DM ordered us to confiscate the properties under the Gangster Act,” the cop said.
