Kanpur: Adarsh Club won the first late Sanjay Dixit and Sushil Chandra Awasthi memorial cricket tournament when they defeated South Gymkhana by 6 wickets in the final tie held at the BCA ground here on Sunday.
South Gymkhana, batting first, scored 7 for 152 in the stipulated 20 overs. Ashish Bajpai and Harsh Singh were the main scorers with 40 and 46 runs respectively. Shobhit Yadav and Ashfaq scalped 2 wickets each.
Adarsh Club in reply scored the required 153 runs for the loss of 4 wickets with two overs spare. Earlier, in the morning Deepak Gupta, former president of JCI Kanpur inaugurated the final tie. KCA officials were present on the occasion.
Brief score: South Gymkhana-7 for 152 (Ashish Bajpai 40, Harsh Singh 46, Brajesh 25, Shobhit Yadav 2 for 25, Ashfaq 2 for 23) Adarsh Club-4 for 153 (Aditya Srivastava 33, Devesh Tiwari 21, Ashfaq 20 no, Himanshu Pandey 42 no, Dilip Patel 2 for 22) MOM-Ashfaq.
Academy: Speaker of UP Legislative Assembly Satish Mahana inaugurated the Day & Night Cricket Academy at the KDMA International Barra-8 ground on April 21.
Sanjay Kapoor, chairman of KDMA group of schools, welcomed the chief guest. The chief guest, after cutting the ribbon at the main gate, illuminated the flood light by remote and flew balloons. The chairman said the cricketers could now practise under flood lights which were lacking so far. The school students presented a cultural programme on the occasion.
Principal of KDMA School Priyanka and coach Manish Mehrotra cricket were also present.
Taekwondo: Kanpur Taekwondo Association announced its colour belt promotion test held here at GNK Inter College on Sunday.
