Varanasi: The Inland Waterways Authority of India will provide four new jetties along the ghats of Ganga, which would facilitate operation of water taxis in the city in future.
IWAI chairman Sanjay Bandopadhyaya held a review meeting here on Tuesday, attended by the joint secretary of IWAI, Varanasi divisional commissioner and officials of PWD, tourism department, National Highways Authority of India, and of Chandauli and Varanasi administration.
Bandopadhyaya reviewed land acquisition to develop a multimodal terminal in the city and said the remaining land should be acquired as per the Land Acquisition Act 1894. “Since funds have been released for those who sold the land as per the agreement, they should be paid immediately,” he said.
Divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma directed the NHAI, PWD and revenue departments to ensure acquisition of the remaining land was done in a well-planned manner and demarcation marked for acquisition was verified by on-site inspection by all departments concerned. The departments should send their proposals to the government within a week, he said.
It was decided that land should be acquired appointing retired lekhpal and kanungo on contract in IWAI. The special land acquisition officer was also directed to get land acquired for the new freight village and was assured remaining amount would be released soon.
